O f  Brothers: Poetry Inspired by the Life and Death of My Hero

By Matt Patron

Sgt. Dan Patron was killed in action on August 6, 2011. He was my only brother. The raw emotions contained in this book are two years of reflection and pain. Of Brothers is my goodbye to my hero--words that will forever remain unsaid.

On August 6, 2011, Marine Sgt. Daniel J. Patron was killed in Sangin, Afghanistan while serving our country. As an EOD technician, Dan had successfully rendered hundreds of explosives safe before that tragic day. As Matt Patron, Dan’s brother, sat teary-eyed after receiving Dan’s remains in Dover, Delaware, one of the marines knelt down and whispered to his mother: “We have to be right every time, they only have to be right once.” Matt remembered that day and those quiet words. In an effort to come to terms with the loss of his brother, Matt began to pen his memories, thoughts, and feelings. Matt was confused, angry, nostalgic, struggling with faith, and trying to figure out what he would one day tell his children about the uncle they never knew. As part of his healing process, Matt wrote Of Brothers: Poetry Inspired by the Life and Death of My Hero. These are words that will forever remain unsaid. It is a love letter and painful goodbye to his brother, Sgt. Dan.

Of Brothers contains adult themes and language and is not suitable for children.
